What is a security freeze?
A security freeze, when properly placed, prohibits a consumer reporting agency, such as CoreLogic SafeRent, from releasing information it has on you to property management companies, landlords, employers, and other users of our services without you providing a PIN to unlock information SafeRent has on you. A security freeze may be used by anyone, even those who do not believe they have been a victim of fraud, including identity theft. To place a security freeze on your SafeRent consumer file, please read these instructions carefully.
What happens if I request a security freeze with SafeRent?
While the law varies from state to state, in general, you may request a security freeze to be placed upon your consumer file. SafeRent will, upon request and proper identification, place a security freeze on your SafeRent consumer file. Once a security freeze is in place, SafeRent will provide you with a personal PIN by mail. Once frozen, your SafeRent consumer file will only be released when you directly contact SafeRent, provide us with your personal PIN, and request that any information SafeRent has on you be released.
What is frozen when I place a security freeze with SafeRent?
SafeRent is not a credit bureau but a consumer reporting agency providing public records information to its clients. At your request, we will place a security freeze on your SafeRent consumer file, which primarily consists of public record information.
How do I place a security freeze with SafeRent?
If you would like to place a security freeze, please contact SafeRent consumer relations department indicating that you would like to place a security freeze. You may contact SafeRent consumer relations by phone or mail to make the request. You must provide the following information in order to request to place a security freeze:
- Your full name;
- Your current address, including apartment number and zip code;
- Your social security number/Taxpayer Identification Number and;
- Your date of birth.
SafeRent will not be able to process your request if you fail to provide any of the above listed information.

What will happen if I apply for housing or employment if there is a security freeze placed on my SafeRent consumer file?
Please note that placement of a security freeze on your SafeRent consumer file may delay approval of applications for housing and employment as property management companies, landlords, and employers are permitted to treat your application as incomplete until you allow them to view your consumer file.
How do I lift or remove a security freeze when I apply for housing or employment?
Instructions for lifting and removing security freezes on your SafeRent consumer file are as follows:

Please include the following information in your request:
- Your full name;
- Your current address, including apartment number and zip code;

- Also provide the period of time you would like the report to be accessible or the name of the SafeRent client that you would like to have access to your report.
A special note on lifting for a particular party:
SafeRent does provide you with the opportunity to lift the freeze on your report to provide it to a particular SafeRent client. These are called transactional or party lifts.
This type of lift, however, requires that you provide to SafeRent the name of the SafeRent client exactly as it appears in SafeRent's system in order for the lift to process appropriately. It is important to understand the following things if you choose this option:
- You must contact the apartment complex ahead of time to determine that SafeRent, in fact, does provide screening services for that apartment complex.
- You must determine whether the property is doing business under a d/b/a name. This means that the actual legal name of the apartment complex may differ from the name under which the apartment complex does business. For example, an apartment complex may be named "Rolling Meadows." Rolling Meadows, however, may actually be operated by ABC Property Company. If ABC Property Company is, in fact, a SafeRent client, its listing in our system will be its legal name, ABC Property Company, as that is the name under which the business must sign its contracts and thereby, legally bind itself. One further complication to be aware of is ABC Property Company may be operating several apartment complexes. As a result, Rolling Meadows may appear in the SafeRent system as ABC Property Company/Rolling Meadows. The bottom line is you must find out from the apartment complex how they are listed in our system in order for the lift to process appropriately.
- Once you have the information, you may contact consumer relations and provide the name of the client that is to receive your report.
May I call to lift/remove the freeze?
You may also call to lift/remove your security freeze. The number to call during regular business hours will be provided to you in the letter confirming your freeze and providing you with your PIN.
When will I be able to send the request electronically through this website?
Please click here to access the forms to request to place, lift, or permanently remove a security freeze on your SafeRent file. You will be asked to supply only your email address at this time and all forms will be sent to you via email with instructions for where to return them.
How do I place a security freeze on my reports at the 3 major credit bureaus?
Please note a security freeze of your credit information is handled by the 3 major credit bureaus. CoreLogic SafeRent is only a reseller of credit bureau information and cannot place a security freeze with the bureaus on your behalf. To place a security freeze of your credit information, please contact, Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion directly and ask them to place a security freeze on your consumer credit bureau file. Please note that you must contact each bureau separately to freeze all your consumer information with each bureau.
